New study from Australia looking at newly diagnosed children with IBD. MAP found in CD more than in UC or controls. All IBD patients naive to treatment with 'anti-MAP antibiotics' or immunosuppressive drugs, so maybe a good time to test given Greenstein and others work, and other reasons too.
Surprised to see rectum as the 'number one' spot of detection rather than the ileum, but a few either way could have changed that easily. Also surprised to see number of detections in the B1 (non-stricturing and non-penetrating) category. And surprised that there was no statistical difference between granulomatous and non-granulomatous disease with regard to MAP detection in either intestinal biopsy or blood samples. So what type of CD is most associated with MAP? They say AIEC is only associated with ileal disease; should MAP be only associated with one type of CD too, or is it associated with most types? Furthermore, which genetic predispositions are associated with which types of CD?
