What might happen to consumer demand for milk products if a causal link between CD and MAP is proven?

Which risk mitigation strategy would work? Would that strategy comfort consumers?

If the link between MAP and Human disease is accepted, the only way to solve the problem is to subject all milk to the UHT process, that could be enhanced by freezing, or other anti MAP processes.

This would mean that Milk would become a commodity, and could be traded in world markets. This would help the industry.

We may have to accept that there is no way that MAP can be eliminated from pasteurised milk, that's how I read the research.

If people want to continue drinking it, its down to survival of the fittest, is a slight improvement in taste worth the risk of crohns?

I think something else that would be really good is if there was a good program in place to certify producers as either Johne's free or not. Milk could also be labeled as from Johne's free producers, but this would be difficult and might have shortcomings anyways. Would be difficult because I think a lot of our milk comes from multiple producers, so when the truck comes to pick up milk from the farms, it only takes one farm to have a MAP shedding animal to spoil the entire batch. It might have shortcomings because some producers may be certified Johne's free through current diagnostic tests but still have some sub-clinically infected animals or animals that test false negative and are shedding MAP in their milk unknowingly.
