I am a campaigner here in England. The MAP issue is very complicated and because of this it has little media coverage. The truth is that there are more diseases than there are known causes. The main symptom of crohns is diarrhoea. Its a taboo subject, people would rather talk about  sex, mass murder and incest. Shit does not sell newspapers. The Government here has decided to get MAP out of food. Despite a lot of hard work by the dairy industry, more people are being hospitalised with crohns every year. There are four kinds of people. Plants who do nothing, sheep, who like being told what to do, predators who stalk, and victims, some of who are survivors. Most of the people who are campaigning about crohns are survivors who are trying to adapt to the environment. we are up against politicians and the establishment. The pressure is to have a political system that promotes the survival of the fittest. People with lifelong diseases are seen to have a genetic weakness. If we die it purifies the human race just a little. I believe the only way to solve the MAP problem is for some company to provide MAP free food. It would be fairly easy to do this. I estimate it would cost about 5% more. I hope the antibiotic helps but its no use  taking this, if next year you catch it again from a burger or a coffee.  Eventually MAP will become resistant. Would you pay more for MAP free food? Alan   (Zhitz International)

You are absolutely right, what we need is map free food.  Now if only I could find some, and I was totally secure in the fact that it was really Map free, now thats a tough one Alan.

I really don't believe that the public and the politicians  believe that people with chronic illnesses are weak and will eventually die off.  I think that when the general population sees a visibly diabled person, they wish there was something they could do.  Politicians on the other hand,  are geared  to do whatever it takes to get voted in, and so, if a problem  is put on the table that is not popular, it doesn't go forward, because it is not to their best interest.

I think that people in general have compassion for others who are less fortunate, but they are so preoccupied trying to survive themselves that they just can't handle anything else.  What I mean is if the problem does not affect them personally, they don't get involved.

Then of course the majority of the population think that doctors and the government would never intentionally hurt them with bacteria in their food, or bacteria in their milk, as they believe the government is there to protect them.  The majority of the population are under the impression that our society and politicians are truly evolved, but they are not.

On this planet the almighty dollar decides who will stay sick.  The pharmaceutical companies, the dairy association, the meat industry, rule.
My husband always said, you know sometimes I wish I looked disabled as I would have an easier time of it.  That is true.  If people can't see the problem, they believe there is is not a problem.  Diane Fagen

I think crohnscanada is doing a great job, it still works. There are a lot of hidden disabilities, and too many people pretend to be normal. I don't believe its a conspiracy, profit motivation or misguided medics. I think is simply human nature to hope for the best. Most people believe that they cannot change the world or make themselves healthy by avoidance and safety behaviour. Other people like being told what to do. We are involved in a problem that has the potential to destroy the human race. We faced this before with HIV, CJD and SARS. If you look back nobody that campaigned are memorable, they did it because they cared and knew the facts. Drug companies are making billions preparing for bird flu. MAP is bird tuberculosis. It dsables animals it infects apart from man. It is us humans who have decided we are immune from it. Lets get bird tuberculosis out of our food now before it is too late, it mutates or it becomes resistant. Save our birds, animals, and humans who are genetically identifiable as vulnerable. Alan

Hi Alan

I really don't know where anyone could begin with bird tuberculosis.  The government can't even control Johne's disease in cattle, can you imagine if they had to somehow control birds with tuberculosis.  They can't seem to even deal with cattle who are on foot, nevermind birds in the air. LOL

If we had a government that was really very concerned, I am sure it could be figured out, but of course they are not, money is their only concern, don't you think.  It might upset their profit margin.

Sorry for the confusion Diane. Many people do not care because they do not understand the words Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis.

If you simplify it and say "Bird TB has spread to dairy cows and is now threatening the human race. Some Canadians are desperately taking anti-TB drugs in the hope it may cure them of the Avian TB infection. It may have spread to them through food that has not been cooked enough to kill the bug. Some doctors believe that Avian TB is also a cause of crohns disease. Other countries, for example England and Ireland, have been working hard to get Avian TB out of food. Will Canada start this work soon? Canada has one of the highest rates of crohns disease in the world. Join the fight to help MAP Canada get bird tuberculosis out of Canadian food now"

It's not really bird TB.  Mycobacterium Avium subspecies Avium (MAA, aka M. avium hominissuis) causes tuberculosis in birds, not subspecies paratuberculosis.   They are both part of the Mycobacterium Avium Complex (MAC)

Ok it might be more correct to say that MAP is a form of bird tuberculosis, if people care to look up "the comparative cervical tuberculin test" they will learn that if cattle only test positive to avian (bird) TB they are taken out of quarantine. The sick joke is that many of these animals are infected with MAP and go on to develop johnes. The obvious answer is to regard avian TB reactors as johnes suspects, quarantine them and subject them to further diagnostic testing. I have asked why this is not done here in the UK. The answer was that it is not financially viable.  There needs to be public debate on this issue. Maybe some dairy person who reads this could explain why an opportunity to eradicate an infection that costs them, is being missed?
